Greetings Upper Keys Business and Professional Women!
I sincerely hope this newsletter finds you safe and healthy. It's been a sadly eventful month. With the destruction of Hurricane Ida, the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, restrictive voting and reproductive health laws being passed in Texas, and the rapidly spreading COVID variant, the news has been a bit dismal of late. Our community is still reeling from the recent loss of County Commissioner Mike Forster, as well as so many others. Now more than ever we need our Tribe. We are stronger together.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at our Luncheon on Wednesday. It will be a bit different, but I'm happy we will be gathering in person in a safe way. I'm looking forward to hearing from Chuck Licis with Take Stock in Children. Special thanks to our sponsor, Centennial Bank. And, we will be raising money for Good Health Clinic while we're there - you could help make me the Big Kahuna!
We have a lot going on at Upper Keys BPW in the next few months! Scholarship applications will be closing this week and the Committee will meet soon to review them and choose the recipients. Woman and Business of the Year Nominations have opened! Members can scroll down a little for the links to nominate a member woman and business of your choice. The awards and scholarships will be given out at the October evening social event at Whale Harbor on October 20th. We are offering sponsorship opportunities to five (5) members for $100 each. They will be allowed to set up tables at the event for a small business expo, and have an opportunity to address the attendees. Please let me, or any Board Member, know if you are interested in participating, or if you want more information about sponsoring BPW events. All sponsorship proceeds go to the Adult Scholarship Fund.

Upper Keys BPW & Holly Given Fund Adult Scholarships!
The Upper Keys BPW Adult Women Scholarship Program, in partnership with the Holly Given Fund, is designed to help women gain a professional edge through education efforts. Particular emphasis is given to individuals who demonstrate strong character, professional collaborative efforts with other women and are, or have the potential to be, a strong role model for the current and next generation of working women.
Scholarships are up to $1500 per application and may be used for certifications, training classes, or classes and required materials for higher educational degrees. Transportation, room/board costs, or fees and CEU's associated with professional licensing requirements are eligible.
Applicants do not have to be members of the Upper Keys BPW, however, an application sponsored by a current member is highly favorable. Minimum requirements for applicants include:
- High School diploma/GED
- Florida Keys resident for at least 3 years
- Minimum of 5 years post-high school work experience
DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 15
It's that time! Time for Upper Keys BPW Members to nominate the Woman
of the Year & Business of the Year for 2021! To make a nomination, you must
be a Member in good standing. The Woman of the Year nominees must also
be Members in good standing, and the Business of the Year must be a for
profit business that is owned or operated by an Upper Keys BPW Member.
