Greetings Upper Keys Business and Professional Women!

How is everyone holding up? I hope you are all safe and healthy. Nearly every day this past week, I have gotten news of someone else I know testing positive for COVID-19. It is a very scary time. I find myself worrying for my friends and loved one's health, and also for their mental and emotional well-being as this social isolation continues to be our new way of life.

 I saw this recently and thought it was good advice to follow:
Be Kind to Your Mind
Tips to cope with stress during COVID-19
  1. PAUSE. Breathe. Notice how you feel.
  2. TAKE BREAKS from COVID-19 content.
  3. MAKE TIME to sleep and exercise.
  4. REACH OUT and stay connected.
  5. SEEK HELP if overwhelmed or unsafe.
I have been practicing "mindfulness" lately - pausing, even if just for a few minutes, from my daily routine and really focusing on the moment, on how I feel and where I am at that exact moment in time. I find it helps keep me more centered and less likely to react negatively to stressful situations. Taking breaks from watching news, and even from spending too much time on social media, can go a long way towards helping you cope and staying less stressed. Information overload is not healthy. Take a break, go for a walk, call a friend or family member, read a favorite book or even take a nap!

Staying connected is so important. Sign up for virtual community events, workshops and webinars to give you some social interaction and to keep you engaged. A few links are shared under Professional Development below. Some of the local chambers and clubs are holding virtual events, including your Upper Keys BPW! Join us this Wednesday for the virtual monthly luncheon, and on Wednesday July 29th for another virtual Happy Hour. I've said it before, we need each other, we need our Tribe, now more than ever. Please reach out to me or any of the Board if you are in need. We are all in this together!

We are still looking for committee members and even a few committee chairs. If you would like information on getting more involved and getting more out of your BPW membership, please let me know! The Public Policy committee is starting to plan the political candidate mixer and the political forum, the Scholarship committee will start meeting soon to choose our next recipients, and the Marketing committee has started meeting about enhancing our public branding. These are just a few examples of exciting opportunities available, so please consider joining a committee.

 I hope to see you all on Wednesday for the virtual luncheon. We are excited to hear from two of our members, Elizabeth Moscynski and Sue Woltanski, with important community updates. We will also be installing some of our new members, so be sure and RSVP to get your Zoom link. Take care of yourselves, stay safe and healthy, and please remember to be kind to your mind.

As you know, we fund our Adult Scholarships through our events with Sponsors, Happy Dollars, raffles and more.  Starting our new fiscal year off without physical events could impact the amount we are able to award in scholarships to deserving women in our community.
There is no cost to attend this months virtual event. We want everyone to feel welcome to join us!  BUT, if you are able and feel so inclined, we are giving you a tier of donation options that will go to the Scholarship Fund, including a Top Tier Level of only $50!

Great Info/Resources from The United Way of the FL Keys:


For years, Upper Keys officials have been talking about a pedestrian bridge to be constructed over U.S.1 at Founders Park. During holidays and special events (concerts or the Gigantic Nautical Flea Market), traffic comes to a standstill because of heavy congestion and guests trying to cross the road. The $4.68 million project has entered the design phase and the cost will be paid for by the State Department of Transportation. The Keys Weekly Newspapers are conducting a survey to find out if locals support the project.
