February 2021

Greetings Upper Keys Business and Professional Women!
February is the month of love! Of course February brings us Valentines Day, but the month isn't all about romantic love. It's also a time to focus on loving ourselves. Self care is the topic of our February evening event on the 17th We have Jenn Bolt joining us to talk about the importance of taking care of ourselves - body, mind and spirit.
It's a busy time for Upper Keys BPW! If you are a working mother, I really hope you attended, or have watched the video of, the Moms in Business Workshop. Wow. The four panelists were so open and honest. The way they shared with the audience and with each other was so inspiring. The video of the workshop is posted below under "Month in Review."
In addition to the evening Self Care event this week, be sure and sign up for the BPW/FL Technology Webinar next Thursday, February 25th. Learn what the BPW/FL website has to offer you and our local organization.
And, then, on March 14th... oh my goodness y'all!..I am so stinking excited! It's the Member Appreciation Day Drive/Walk Through "Spring Into Better Days" Event! Thank you to member Bev Newman for offering her property at Key Largo Mini Storage for the drive through. It's across the street from Key Largo Park. You have two options. 1) Drive Through: We will have stations with a goodie bag and lots of swag provided by members. Stations will be "manned" by board and/or committee members. 2) Walk Through: If you feel comfortable, you can park at the Key Largo Park parking log, and walk through the "stations." Masks and social distancing strictly enforced. You can also stick around and walk the park with a BPW member! We'll have photo ops and lots of fun! Please join us! It will be so nice to see (at least half of) your faces!
With love and gratitude,

February is 💓 Your 💓 Month

It's February – American Heart Month – a time when the nation spotlights heart disease, the No. 1 killer of Americans. In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson, among the millions of people in the country who had suffered heart attacks, issued the first proclamation declaring February American Heart Month, and since then, U.S. presidents have done so annually.

This year, the American Heart Association's "Heart to Heart: Why Losing One Woman Is Too Many" campaign will raise awareness about how heart disease remains the leading killer of women, and how 1 in 3 women are diagnosed with heart disease annually.

The federally designated event is even more important this year due to the impact of the coronavirus on the public's heart health. Also, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have delayed or avoided going to hospitals for heart attacks and strokes. And while in lockdown, more people have engaged in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, such as eating poorly, drinking more alcohol and limiting physical activity, that can contribute to heart disease.

But you can do a lot to protect your heart and stay healthy. Heart-healthy living involves understanding your risk, making choices, and taking steps to reduce your chances of getting heart disease.

Join the #OurHearts Movement

#OurHearts is an inspiring way to encourage and motivate everyone to adopt heart-healthy behaviors, together. Research shows having social support and personal networks makes getting regular physical activity, eating healthy, losing weight, and quitting smoking easier.
